Very unfortunate situation. I wonder if intent should factor into this? This seems like more of an issue of competence rather than intention to reduce vaccination. There is generally an intention with nudging, so symmetrically perhaps there should be intention... (More)
Bradley Langford 220 Pharmacist, Antimicrobial Stewardship
I am a Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Toronto and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado. My research and practice interests are to improve antibotic prescribing behavior to reduce the risk of antimicrobial resistance, one of the greatest public health threats. I have published several peer reviewed studies on the role that behavioral insights and nudging play in improving the rational use of antibotics to make care safer for patients and populations.

An interesting question! My non-committal response is that it probably depends on the nature of the behaviour and the design of the intervention.

It seems that long term behaviour is an important outcome to measure in these circumstances. Even if a participant does not reject a default option, they have not necessarily made a conscious decision and may change their mind (or make... (More)

This is really interesting! I suspect simplification of forms helps to reduce the friction to complete tax forms and is such is reducing "sludge". Whether it is a nudge or not perhaps could be debated but I think the... (More)

At the risk of answering my own question, I thought I would provide an example from a different field. In the implementation science literature, we often use the Behaviour Change Wheel24 and the Theoretical Domains Framework22 to identify barriers and... (More)

That is interesting, I haven't heard that before. In fact, I would prefer a Likert scale with 5 or 7 options as it does allow for a neutral option (I often find myself genuinely neutral or ambivalent on many topics).... (More)

Thanks for creating this group @Kenneth Colombe18!
For those of us who are on Twitter I've created a Twitter List of Behavioural Insights accounts to follow:

As one who likes frameworks and categorizing things, I'm also interested in this question. So far we've heard of nudging categories from different authors (pro-social vs. pro-self, system 1 vs. system 2, self-imposed vs. externally imposed, educative vs. non-educative). Pulling... (More)

So many great suggestions here. In addition, as a newbie to BE/BI, I liked The Last Mile: Creating Social and Economic Value from Behavioral Insights, by Dilip Soman. Concise, easy to read with lots of neat examples. It touched... (More)
